1. What's right outside the door

DOKK Agárd is not a hotel and not a guesthouse. It's a team base — for sports teams and scout troops alike — and its setting is why.

FacilityDistanceFor
Large grass field, right in front of the building0 mMorning runs, drills, team games, obstacle courses, patrol activities, warm-up — free, open to use
Three beach handball courts (national beach handball centre)30 mSand training, beach handball, beach volleyball, sand running
Cycle path — 29 km lake loop + the Budapest–Balaton route0 mTempo training, cycling tours, endurance-hike prep
Water access, 2 private jetties, a surf base next door0–50 mKayak, SUP, rowing — subject to the current water level, we'll tell you exactly what to expect

Agárd Parkerdő Sports and Leisure Centre3 kmAdditional facility
Being upfront about it: the water level of Lake Velence is currently at a historic low. None of the facilities above depend on that — the sand, the grass field, the gym, the thermal bath, the forest, and the cycle path are all unaffected. If your group is coming specifically for water sports, call us and we'll tell you honestly what you can expect.

2. The accommodation

Four rooms, 35 people, one building. Book the whole house and it's exclusively yours.

RoomCapacityNotes
Tramontana4 beds + 1 extraSmall room — for leaders, chaperones, coaches
Bora9 beds + 1 extraTeam dorm, bunk and loft beds
Levante10 beds + 2 extraTeam dorm
Mistral10 beds + 2 extraTeam dorm
The sum of each room's maximum (5+10+12+12=39) is higher than 35 — not every extra bed is available in every room at the same time. The official, bookable whole-house capacity at any one time is 35 people.

Shared spaces: a 35 m² dining and common room — also works for patrol meetings, evening programmes, debriefs · fully equipped kitchen (self-catering possible) · large shared fridge.

Bathrooms: 1 women's (2 toilets, 2 showers) + 1 men's (3 toilets, 1 urinal, 3 showers) — shared, not per room.

Also: heating and A/C · wifi throughout the house · lockable bike storage · free parking, bus-sized vehicles included · grill and cauldron-cooking spot by the water · 2 private jetties.

Good to know before you book: dormitory-style accommodation with shared bathrooms. No en-suite bathrooms, no TVs in the rooms. For teams and scout troops this is usually not a problem — for many groups it's exactly the camp atmosphere they're after — but it's better to know in advance. For groups of 30+, we recommend a shower schedule, and we'll give you a template.
For groups of more than 35 people, accommodation is also possible — we arrange it together with other nearby accommodations within walking distance, so the group can stay together in the area. We always provide a separate, custom quote for this.

Meals can be enjoyed in the common room and dining area, as well as at the Elixír café in the same building, on the terrace facing the lake. Self-catering groups get a fully equipped kitchen — most scout troops choose this option.

A few more things worth knowing

  • Local tourist tax: HUF 600/person/night (≈€1.65, at the daily bank rate). This is a statutory Hungarian tax charged in HUF regardless of currency; free under 18 — which covers the large majority of participants at most scout camps. Charged separately, not included in the room rate.
  • Bookings confirmed with a 20% deposit.
  • Cancellation: free more than 30 days out · 50% of the deposit refunded within 30 days · no refund within 14 days.
  • Check-in from 14:00, check-out by 10:00. Flexible depending on occupancy.
  • Best rate for direct bookings — not through booking platforms.

4. Sample package — 3 days / 2 nights, group of 24, low season

ItemCalculation€
Accommodation24 people × 2 nights × €231,104
Breakfast24 people × 2 days × €6288
Dinner24 people × 2 days × €11528
Subtotal€1,920
Tourist tax24 people × 2 nights × €1.65 (over 18 only)79
Total≈€1,999

Per person: ≈€83 / 3 days, with two meals and full use of the house.

For a youth or scout group, the under-18s are exempt from the tourist tax — for a 24-person scout troop that's mostly minors, this cost largely disappears.

5. Who this is for

  • Beach handball and sand sports — the national centre is 30 metres away. On competition weekends, we're the closest accommodation there is.
  • Handball, basketball, volleyball — gym 2 km, sand court 30 m, recovery 3 km.
  • Football — pitches within 2–8 km, a grass warm-up field right at the door.
  • Kayaking, canoeing, rowing, surfing — on the water, arranged with a clear picture of the current water level.
  • Running and triathlon clubs — a 29-km lake loop, forest, hills, and a grass field all in one place.
  • Youth development camps — self-catering kitchen, common room, the whole house for one group.

5/B. For scout troops — domestic and international

DOKK Agárd is a whole house given over to a single group — which is exactly what a patrol or troop camp needs.

We don't offer scouts a hotel experience; we offer a base: dormitories, a self-catering kitchen, a large common room, and a big grass gathering space right outside the door. The camp character — shared sleeping quarters, shared bathrooms, your own cooking — isn't a shortcoming here. It's precisely what a scout troop is looking for.

What we offerWhy it fits a scout camp
35 people, one whole house, exclusively yoursA patrol or an entire troop stays together, not split into rooms among strangers
Large grass field at the doorMorning gathering, team games, obstacle courses, patrol activities — with the gym 2 km away as a covered backup if it rains
Forest and hills 4–8 km away (Bence Hill, Velence Hills)Hiking, orienteering, field exercises
Cycle path at the door — 29-km lake loopA cycling endurance day, a full-day route
Self-catering kitchenMost scout camps cook for themselves — we have a fully equipped kitchen with a large fridge for exactly that
35 m² common roomEvening programme, debrief circle, quiz nights, a rainy-day backup
Grill and cauldron-cooking spot by the waterEvening cooking together, campfire atmosphere on the shore
Low-season rate (Oct–Mar): €23/person/nightOur lowest price bracket — and exactly the period when most domestic and international scout troops run their autumn or spring camps and weekend hikes
Free of tourist tax under 18For a troop made up mostly of minors, this largely removes an extra cost on top of the room rate
Thermal baths 3 km awayA rest day option on longer camps, or a warm alternative to the showers

Who this is ideal for

  • Hungarian scout troops — weekend hikes, autumn/spring troop camps, badge tests, leader training weekends.
  • International scout troops — a summer international camp or exchange trip in Central Europe, close to Budapest (45 minutes) and well connected by air.
  • Partner scout associations (WOSM and WAGGGS member organisations across Europe) — exchange visits, a joint camp with a Hungarian troop, a training camp before or after an international jamboree.

What you should know before you book

There is no designated, permitted outdoor campfire pit on site — the grill and cauldron-cooking spot by the water is a good substitute for an evening programme. The site is not set up for tent camping — accommodation is in the four rooms of the house. If your programme needs an open campfire site or tent space, let us know in advance — we can point you to an alternative nearby (Agárdi Parkerdő).

6. What to bring

  • Sports equipment, balls, your own towels for training/activities. We provide bedding.
  • Self-catering groups: the kitchen is fully equipped — bring your own ingredients.
